What is enamel?

Enamel is a colored silicate glass of complex composition. Basis of enamel is frit. Frit is a composition of mineral and organic compounds (clays, polymers, and powdered or granulated glass). Frit turns into the enamel after firing. In fact, the enamel is a glass, clear or opacified, applied on a metal base with a thin layer.

Enamelware produced by Kerch Metallurgical Plant is made from high quality rolled steel and coated with two layers of heat-resistant enamel. Enamel coating protects food from contact with metal, it is inert and acids proof, does not interact with the food and does not distort the taste.

Steel enamelware is perfectly suitable for cooking, storing food and other household needs. It is hygienic and easy to use.
Thus enamel is a glass, it is not recommended to:

  • allow the product to fall;
  • heat the bowl without liquid;
  • allow liquid products to freeze in enameled cookware;
  • clean the cookware with scourer.

It is not recommended to use acid detergents for descaling.

When caring for and proper use, enamelware can serve for many years.

When choosing enamel cookware is useful to know the following:

  • At the bottom of items with stainless steel rim "points" can be observed. These are traces of needles, on which the item is placed and fired in a kiln. On products with rim, there are no such traces as for firing they are placed upside down and then the rim of stainless steel is put on.
  • If a layer of enamel is too thick, it is the result of correction because, poorly enameled product undergoes a second stage of enamelling. As a result cookware has uneven coating, which is most exposed to chipping during the usage.
  • The quality of our products is ensured by highly qualified personnel, strict quality control system and is certified.

What are the advantages of enamelware?

Compared to stainless steel cookware

Stainless steel cookware is popular enough in the market, but high-quality stainless steel cookware is much more expensive than enamelware. Today market is full of cheap stainless steel cookware. Such kitchen utensils attract many buyers; however, its use may be unsafe. To make its products cheaper Asian manufacturers use poor-quality steel, often mixed with copper. This leads to the fact that the dishes which are cooked in such utensils are harmful to health, as ions of nonferrous metals (copper, chromium, nickel) penetrates into it. Food cooked in a pan, have a characteristic taste of metal — especially noticeable in water boiled in a stainless steel kettle. Even high quality stainless steel cookware is intended for cooking directly before use. It is not recommended to cook acidic food and store it in stainless steel cookware, as while food is in direct contact with the metal for a long time.

The double layer of enamel coating reliably protects the food from contact with metal; metal ions can not penetrate into the food. All this makes the enamel ware most suitable for cooking and storage of healthy and delicious food.

Compared to stainless steel cookware

  • Enameled surface excludes food contact with metal;
  • Enamelware is not harmful to health;
  • Wide range of colors and the possibility of applying decals, which allows to give the buyer a wide choice of designs and decorations;
  • Enamelware is hygienic and easy to clean;
  • The price is lower than the price of the qualitative products from stainless steel.

Compared with aluminum cookware

Aluminum cookware is at the last place on safety impact on human health. In spite of the presence of an oxide film, the penetration of aluminum in food is constantly in the process of cooking — long thermal influence, when cooking sour dishes. Penetration of aluminum in the body leads to its accumulation and later — to serious diseases. Therefore, despite the low cost, usage of aluminum utensils for cooking is not recommended. In European countries the sale of aluminum cookware without coating is prohibited.
